Director, North America Compensation

As the Director of North American Compensation, you will lead Iron Mountain’s North American compensation team to create and drive strategy to attract and retain top talent across our North American workforce. This includes 9,000+ employees across multiple lines of business with diverse workforces, including our commercial and technology businesses, operations, and corporate groups.

You will drive the delivery of compensation solutions to the business in North America, making sure we develop, implement, and communicate compensation structures and programs that are modern, innovative, and competitive, as well as solutions and processes to facilitate the implementation of our compensation strategy.

In addition, the role will participate in our global initiatives and lead certain processes globally. As part of a global team, you will lead the implementation of our job architecture initiatives across N. America, as well as new bonus plans across our global businesses. You will also be the global lead on our annual process for merit and bonus using Workday, and ongoing survey management and annual benchmarking/ market pricing globally.

  • Lead our Compensation Managers in North America to deliver our services effectively to the business, and contribute to building and strengthening organizational compensation capabilities

  • Lead the development of core compensation methodologies, frameworks, and standards related to pay ranges, compensation survey management, benchmarking and market pricing, job structures and levels and annual merit program.

  • Lead the design and ongoing management and administration of incentive compensation programs

  • Lead the annual compensation planning cycle globally, partnering with Compensation Business Partners in the delivery and management of the process, guidelines, and communications out to the business

  • Establish ongoing governance for the creation of new programs and maintenance and/or modification of existing programs

  • Participate in M&A compensation due diligence and integration of acquired companies

  • Research best practices, internally and externally, and apply key findings in the development of new programs and the refinement of existing programs or processes. Evaluate market and economic trends to recommend best solutions.

This role is a critical leader on the Global Rewards team, and it will report to the VP, Total Rewards.


  • Supervise a team of 4, including three Sr Managers and a Sr Analyst

  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills (written & verbal) and the ability to innovate

  • Proven track record of delivering compensation programs effectively to support business strategies, and delivering content through the lens of the customer

  • Strong leadership, influencing, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Excellent program and project management skills and process orientation

  • Orientation toward using technology to automate programs and processes; experience with Workday beneficial

  • Deep understanding of change management and the ability to think strategically around how to deploy programs and manage that change across a variety of business units and different workforces

  • Ability to embrace organizational ambiguity and change, and navigate and make decisions through uncertainty

  • Tolerance for risk and willingness to be disruptive or take an opposing point of view, when needed

  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to multi-task and juggle multiple priorities

  • Ability to create executive level presentations to influence and guide decisions and to lead discussions at the executive committee level.

  • High proficiency in Excel and Powerpoint.

Experience Required:

  • 8-10 years compensation experience with 3-5 years highly involved in compensation infrastructure development

  • Global compensation experience working in a multinational, matrixed organization

  • Education Required: Bachelor Degree
