Responsibilities

The Iron Mountain Data Center (IMDC) finance and accounting team reports to the VP, Data Center Finance. The team works within the IMDC business unit as a financial hub between IMDC’s leadership and business teams, Iron Mountain’s enterprise team, the core businesses, and financial shared service functions. The team partners to cover finance related responsibilities, from defining and driving budgeting, forecasting and performance management, monthly accounting and financial reporting, ad-hoc analyses and modeling, providing capital and business case support, and managing financial controls.

As a leader within this team, we are is looking for a person that possesses accounting, financial, strategic, and analytical skills and the talent to support IMDC, a growing global portfolio of over $200m in annual revenue across 11 locations. IMDC contributes to Iron Mountain’s status as a real estate investment trust (REIT). This role will be the accounting subject matter expert for IMDC and the primary liaison for the business unit for accounting operations across Iron Mountain. This role will interact heavily with personnel in our centralized accounting teams and centers of technical accounting excellence around the world (the centralized teams will be primarily responsible for executing all transaction processing, including accounts payable, fixed assets, sales/use tax, journal entries, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for global business unit coordination of the monthly close process between our business teams and the share services team. Including understanding/reviewing/escalating any US GAAP issues.

  • Ensuring and maintaining all business unit accounting complies with Iron Mountain real estate investment trust (REIT) policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for the submission of the appropriate accounting for real estate transactions within IMDC including but not limited to, build to suit transactions, construction capitalization policies, and labor/commission capitalization.

  • Support business teams in navigating centralized accounting, real estate, and payment to procurement processes and procedures.

  • Coordinate any intercompany accounting and reporting across IMDC global locations and relationships with Iron Mountain subsidiaries.

  • Responsible for comprehensive balance sheet reviews of results during the close.

  • Oversee communication and maintenance of all accounting policies, issues matrices, and flux analyses in coordination with Iron Mountain’s Global Controllership team.

  • Purchase Accounting – Oversee preparation of opening balance sheets and purchase reserves of applicable acquired entities in accordance with US GAAP. Participate in due diligence and integration efforts as they pertain to accounting areas.

  • Responsible for participating in the assessment and effective communication of accounting information systems requirements, including appropriate participation during systems integrations and implementations, and coordination with appropriate internal resources.

  • Proactively identify, assess and implement preventative controls and process improvements to ensure compliance with all internal control requirements.

  • Coordination with auditors on key issues on a day-to-day basis and in conjunction with the Iron Mountain Inc. audit as needed for the sign-off on Iron Mountain Inc. financial statements.

  • Coordinate the local preparation of quarterly VAT (UK) and GST (Singapore) filings.

  • Supervise activities and development of assigned staff.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/graduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance or a MBA.

  • CPA preferred

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in related accounting operational positions

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience is required; ability to manage multi-site teams

  • Prior experience working and excelling in multi-location, business-services organization is preferred

  • Experience with enterprise-wide applications, accounting and reporting systems (such as Oracle and Hyperion), is required and experience with multinational companies and a shared accounting service center is a definite plus.

  • Knowledge of US GAAP

  • Knowledge of accounting for real estate, construction, and/or data centers

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills; ability to build relationships across a business

  • High degree of skill and proficiency with financial accounting system

  • Ability to effectively drive, manage and communicate change

  • Ability to foster a high degree of credibility with key stakeholders

  • High level of personal accountability

  • Experience with start-up and high growth businesses is highly valued in addition to experience with real estate/data centers.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work within a team environment;

  • Enjoys a hands-on environment and approach

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytic ability

  • Ability to be a champion and agent for change

  • Periodic travel will be required – 10% to 15%
