Data Manager

Iron Mountain Entertainment Services (IMES) is the leading physical and digital asset preservation and archiving service for the Entertainment industry. We partner with the film, music, broadcast and sports industries to provide Iron Mountain’s breadth of global resources and unparalleled safety and security of their invaluable and irreplaceable assets. Our team of veteran industry experts provides best practices and technology to entertainment industry content producers to empower them to protect, access, and monetize their archives across all stages of their lifecycle from creation to preservation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all technical data I/O inquiries, facilitating seamless communication between clients and internal teams.

  • Engage in daily interactions with studio and business personnel to ensure alignment with project objectives and successful delivery.

  • Lead the development and execution of processes, technologies, and workflows for managing client files on production servers throughout project life cycles, up to client delivery.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering team in project planning, workflow development, and ongoing project support.

  • Provide assistance to the Engineering team in resolving tape drive malfunctions, software bugs, and systematic issues.

  • Conduct logical recovery operations on common operating systems as required.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for proof-of-concepts (POCs) and projects.

  • Perform data recovery from various media types including magnetic data tape, optical media, internal and external hard disks, portable storage devices, and enterprise storage systems.

  • Upload restored data to designated client cloud storage repositories.

  • Import and export files in accordance with work order requests.

  • Monitor the storage environment, ensuring correct file naming, directory structures, and taking appropriate action (e.g., reporting, deletion) when space management is required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in technology, IT, or engineering within a global organization.

  • Proficient in Windows Desktop, Windows Server, Linux, and Mac OS.

  • Familiar with media workflows and scripting/automation (Python, Shell, etc.).

  • Proficient in Linux, MacOS, Windows, and Command Line Interface (CLI).

  • Competent with database and inventory platforms (e.g., Filemaker, Excel, GSuite).

  • Knowledgeable about file-based media conversion tools (e.g., Telestream Vantage, Adobe Media Encoder, etc.).

  • Understanding of file-based workflows: organization, migration, transcoding, packaging, delivery, and archiving.

  • Skilled in basic file management and transfer tools (e.g., Aspera, Signiant, AWS, Azure, GCP, Dropbox, Box.com, etc.).

  • Experience handling various storage media (e.g., HDD, RAIDs, AIT, DLT, LTO, optical media, external devices, etc.).

  • Experience in data recovery from diverse open source and proprietary backup software (e.g., LTFS, TAR, Retrospect, Netbackup, and BackupExec, etc.).

  • Comfortable working in a matrix environment.

  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong collaboration, negotiation, assertiveness, self-management, and accountability.

  • Excellent decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in a fast-paced post-production environment.

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands, and lift items up to 50 lbs.
