Principal Network Engineer with GTI – Global - Remote

The Principal Network Engineer role reports to the Global IT leadership (Director, Network Services). The candidate is a technology leader in the IT organization responsible for deploying and maintaining networking technology required to meet the company’s growing IT requirements, certifications, audit, Infra coding, regulatory assessments, and customer requirements. The individual also interacts with principal network engineers and operations, ensuring strong alignment, partnership and focus on the defined IT priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

Corporate Global Networking Infrastructure

● Part of a global team responsible for transformational activities, including building, maintaining, and 3rd level support for modern network infrastructure systems:

  • SDN on Cisco NEXUS Hardware and ACI Software

  • Data Center Segmentation Techniques using Software

  • Next Generation WiFi-6 Capabilities

  • SD-WAN Technologies

● NextGen Security Platforms and Threat Mitigations:

  • NextGen Firewalling and Advanced Threat Protections

  • Cloud Based Network and Security Services

● Public Cloud Platforms:

  • Understanding of Public Cloud Deployments in GCP / AWS / Azure

  • Using robust tools, such as Terraform, to build and maintain public clouds

● Full Lifecycle Management:

  • Provide oversight for all equipment in Iron Mountain Data Centers and Field offices

  • Support to operations for SW and HW upgrades globally

  • Oversight of asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation

● Participation on Project Teams:

  • Execute project deliverables based on requirements

  • Use or Modify existing standards to deploy solutions.

  • Guides and mentors fellow network administrators, engineers, and project team members on related topics

  • Create Operational transition plans for platforms to support Day-2 Operations

Global Networking Team Engagement:

● Participate in Execution:

  • Operate across multiple departmental sub functions or multiple smaller sub-functions within a broader IT function to support the business

  • Applies depth of knowledge to function derived from experience

  • Utilizes opportunities to develop self and others to achieve our common goals.

  • Creates opportunities for development that will stretch peers outside their current comfort zone and willing take calculated risks.

  • Support escalations related to committed deliverables

Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies in these areas:

  • Advanced Cisco Routing and Switching Platforms

  • Cisco ACI

  • Cisco ISE

  • Cisco Tetration / Cisco Secure Endpoint / Cisco SaaS Platforms such as Umbrella

  • Cisco Meraki Switching and Wireless

  • SD-WAN concepts and veloCloud Technologies

  • Checkpoint and Cisco ASA Firewalls

  • F5 Load Balancing

  • Advanced Scripting using Terraform

  • Advanced Automation using Ansible

  • Public Cloud

Soft Skills:

  • Self Starter and ability to run with multiple projects

  • Excellent written, presentation and oral communication skills

  • Prioritization Skills

  • Good decision making, human relations, and organization skills

  • Familiarity and/or experience working with 3rd party partners/vendors and professional services

Business Expertise:

Principal Network Engineers are expected to develop knowledge of the organization's business line and products, underlying infrastructure services and platforms, both on premises and cloud based, and optimize these platforms to maximize efficiency and business value.

Problem Solving:

Develops innovative and practical solutions to project challenges, identifies and works proactively with all levels of the organization to mitigate risks and issues. Collaborates with Support teams, Subject Matter Experts and Project Managers to develop and implement realistic short term and long term solutions.
