Position Summary:

Seeking an experienced and collaborative Digital Archivist leader, to lead a team in a high volume imaging and digitization project of archival materials. The individual in the role will need to set aggressive timelines and schedules, evaluating outcomes and overseeing quality control for materials handling. This position requires aligning imaging activities with other non-archival logistics processes. Critical characteristics of the successful applicant are flexibility, ability to delegate and to work with multiple stakeholders, and the capability of evaluating and modifying practices to align with a large-scale project needs. Experience working within corporate organizations and/or government agencies is highly desirable.

Oversee the archival level imaging projects and personnel within the Imaging Center. Interface and communicate daily with customers (internal/external), resolve issues, plan and staff for projects, adhere to department standards, monitor timelines and results.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Digital Archivist-Team Lead:

  • Provide daily direction to employees in order to accomplish projects. Manage project timelines, quality and outcome of Customers orders.

  • Supervise staff of 20+ employees responsible for archival level imaging of historical documents

  • Lead, mentor, cross train and provide accountable standards and measures to the department employees.

  • Perform time studies for Sales/Account Management.

  • Research and resolve customer issues, modify work procedures as needed to meet customer demand.

  • Manage HR related items: scheduling vacation, managing timecards, assist in performance reviews, assist in hiring and termination processes.

  • Ability to assist in the invoicing process.

  • Ability to work independently and also cooperatively with a geographically distributed team

  • Actively advise and train on handling requirements and digitization of fragile materials

  • Develop processes and procedures to support digitization and processing of archival files and metadata

  • Able to prepare and present quality written and oral reports and presentations

Qualifications

Required Skills and Education:

Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Understanding of the digital imaging processes

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with strong technical background and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated basic billing knowledge.

  • Demonstrated experience imaging sensitive and fragile materials.

Preferred Expertise:

  • Familiarity with DACS, EAD and other archival descriptive and encoding standards

  • Basic understanding of Accounting and the factors that affect margins

  • Experience implementing policies, standards, and procedures for digital archival processes

L eadership:

  • Instrumental in driving production through the Imaging Center personnel by leading and mentoring imaging personnel and providing expertise in working with historical documents.

Interpersonal Skills:

This position requires good communication skills to communicate effectively internally and externally. It requires a collaborative approach to problem solving and working across organizational boundaries to meet client needs. There will be interaction with multiple areas of Iron Mountain with greater focus on local market communication. External communication may consist of customer visits, written and verbal communication.

Travel Requirements:

  • Total travel: 5%

  • Local travel (Depending on District): 1%

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Minimum Experience:

  • years college/2 – 4 Years or significant experience in archival digital imaging

Preferred education:

  • Master's degree or certification in library science, museum studies or archival studies from an accredited institution, OR Master's degree in history with experience in archival theory and practice.

  • Two (2) years of relevant professional experience in a special collection or archive
