The assistant operations manager supports the operations manager wherever necessary and is accountable for maintaining the correct operation of the business in the absence of the operations manager. It is required to perform general hands-on operations work and handling of some administrative responsibilities.

Working with the operations manager to improve the operations of the business by giving effective, actionable guidance to the art handling staff, and supporting administrative tasks, as well as interacting and communicating with clients. The assistant operations manager must be detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task, as well as efficient in scheduling, skilled in computer based work, and have excellent people skills.

Assistant Operations ManagerTasks

  • Manage daily activities, including receiving, releasing, and inventory management of property, TSA screening, viewing room activity, and client support

  • Communicate internally with project managers & account managers regarding availability of staff and space within the warehouse

  • Communicate externally with clients regarding client requests

  • Provide on-the-job coaching and training for current and future art handling team

  • Handle routine tasks and customer issue resolution, and escalate unusual or high priority items


  • Bachelor's degree with work experience of at least 5 years as an administrative assistant or project manager within the art industry

  • Strong organizational skills to maintain records and compile reports

  • Strong communication skills (via email, phone, and in person) are a must

  • Communicating to new and current employees and properly and effectively training them is essential

  • Ability to effectively communicate work instructions to personnel

  • The ability to communicate with potential or existing clients, and make recommendations that increase business revenue and efficiency when possible

  • The commitment to set and uphold the highest standards and business practices

  • Art handling experience strongly preferred
