Job Summary:

The Manager, Data Center Infrastructure (MDCI) will be responsible for white space activities of the VA Iron Mountain Data Center (IMDC) sites. This position will have special responsibilities around customer installations, structured cabling, remote hands, and customer project management. In addition, the MDCI will be responsible for managing a significant team of technicians and an intermediate level of supervisors. While familiarity with critical systems is desirable, primary responsibility will be for activity in the data center pods, from cabling and installation, to customer implementation and install, as well as asset management, audit support and other managed services.

This position must have management experience, Strong organizational skills and Project management skills. Experience in quoting of project work, both materials and labor. General IT experience is helpful but not vital. Experience as a team leader in infrastructure at a multi-tenant data center provider, webscale content provider, or telecom carrier is strong desired.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the installation of all customer equipment to include power provisioning, racks, servers, data switches, and data cabling systems

  • Serve as a customer implementation Project Manager, assisting customers with their new installations into IMDC facilities

  • Serves a department liaison to other functional areas such as facility maintenance, facility shipping and receiving, engineering, corporate staff, financial areas

  • Prepare and maintain an accurate operational and capital budget

  • Responsible for managing the capacity management reporting and upgrade planning process

  • Creation and maintenance of all customer onboarding and customer service processes and procedures.

Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • 3 to 5 years of Data Center Operations or equivalent experience at a multi-tenant data center provider, telecom carrier, or webscale content provider or hosting provider.

  • Expert-level knowledge of structured cabling, both fiber and copper, including proficiency with fusion splicing and outside plant engineering

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems including UPS and standby power systems

  • Significant experience managing data center technicians including self-performance of complex installation and fiber tasks. This experience must include project cost estimation

  • Experience managing support vendors and contractors

  • In depth knowledge of monitoring and control systems both operational and administratively

  • In depth knowledge of Data Center Operations including hardware installations, troubleshooting and problem analysis and various IT vendor maintainer programs

  • Ability to create and maintain data center installation and on-boarding process and procedure documents and workflows that are scalable across hundreds of customers.
