The Sr. Manager, Global Safety & Health designs, develops, and implements initiatives and processes as part of a company-wide comprehensive Safety and Health (SH) program. This role will develop a strategy and monitor the effective execution of various safety engineering, safety awareness, accident investigation, and safety compliance activities across all Iron Mountain data centers, globally. This role will be responsible for driving a strong safety culture throughout the organization. A significant part of the role will include coordinating activities with across multiple departments, business units and outside agencies. The Sr. Manager, Global Safety & Health will track, measure and respond to the effectiveness of programs over time.
This role will champion the prevention of accidents, incidents, and events that harm people, property, or the environment. Working with Design & Construction, Operations, Security, Compliance, and other corporate and operating functions, the incumbent will identify and assess hazards in the work environment, and then identify and implement cost-efficient control measures to reduce the frequency and severity of loss. They will make recommendations to leadership, colleagues, customers, government agencies, and others. Controls may involve administrative controls (such as plans, policies, procedures, training, etc.) and engineering controls.
This person will also be devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well being, or significant discomfort among workers or citizens of the community.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with Design & Construction, and Operations teams to ensure that all projects and vendors are aware of and operating in full compliance with Iron Mountain Safety standards
Promote Safety and Health by working with senior leaders across the businesses and functions to inspire participation and to bring cohesion and synergy to the global program
Develop a compelling, strategic-focused and multi-faceted SH communication plan that addresses employees, vendors, customers, management, and other affiliates; promote ideas and solutions by forming partnerships with operating leaders and corporate executives and demonstrating value
Proactively identify, review, and assess risks in order to eliminate hazards, implement mitigating factors, and determine otherwise potential impact to the business
Provide guidance for departmental processes and activities, including compliance with safety regulations and the investigation of accidents; provide leadership and recommendations regarding the design, implementation and administration of all SH related initiatives, policies, procedures, and tactical processes
Drive the operational implementation of initiatives and processes in such a way as to build a global safety and health culture; ensuring that the key elements of this culture are consistent with the emphases and metrics of Iron Mountain corporate enterprise
Review accident investigations and participate as directed; ensuring that proper policies and procedures are followed; prepare (in conjunction with others) SH reports; provide analysis of trends/data and provide recommendations for follow-up and action planning
Monitor global developments, trends and legislation related to safety and health, and evaluate impact on business operations; recommend policy and procedural improvements where needed
Oversee and participate in the development of (in conjunction with others) various leadership training and employee awareness SH programs; monitor the effectiveness of these programs and link training completion/performance to safety/business metrics
Plan and coordinate the SH work plan; recommend projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures; meet with staff and division contacts to facilitate work and resolve problems
Build effective relationships with IM divisions and customers that reflect and support company core values, and meet or exceed customer expectations
Key Skills, Requirements and Competencies:
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent preferred
Minimum of seven (7) years of varied industrial safety and health experience on a global scale
Experience successfully managing complex projects
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) highly desirable
Expert in-depth knowledge of safety and health programs, policies, and prevention/intervention strategies
Ability to establish credibility with customers and work effectively with all levels of management
Strong leadership, problem solving, and decision making skills required
Strong written/verbal communication, excellent organizational and time-management skills
Strong knowledge of requirements of 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards) in the United States, and familiarity with ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, and similar standards in the countries in which Iron Mountain Data Centers operates
Experience in mitigating and abating regulatory citations
Strong coaching, training and motivational skills; ability to lead a team
Strong analysis and data analytic skills
